Welcome to this blog series on agroecology in the English and Welsh wine industry, my name is Claire Lyons and this is part of my PhD project at the Centre for Agroecology Water and Resilience at Coventry University. Agroecology is seen as a pathway to sustainable, productive and resilient agriculture that is economically viable and socially just. These are generally desirable traits, perhaps they chime with how you are running, or would like to run, your vineyard or winery?
Over the next two years I will explore how exactly agroecology could enhance sustainability, productivity and resilience in the English and Welsh wine industry and what resources and tools need to be in place to support agroecological practices. But to start with I am going to try and establish what agroecology means in the context of the English and Welsh industry.
